I hope that whatever my muse is taking it carries on doing so, for she is on fire right now.
lit_gal's birthday is in two days, but it's ready now and I don't want to get distracted and forget to post on the day itself. Hope you like what I came up with.
TITLE: Tears of a Lonely Warrior
FANDOM: Firefly/Serenity (post-movie)
CHARACTERS: Jayne Cobb; River Tam; Shepherd Book (mention of his death)
WORD COUNT: 150;
SUMMARY: Jayne should be used to death by now; or so you'd have thought.
"Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil." (Ephesians 6:11)
Jayne had'n cried since he'd growed.
Lifted on his own now; feelin' the preachers passin' every time.
Always lifted by my own self.
Damn Book! Why'd I wait 'til now to miss him?
Never needed no Shepherdin' afore.
Need to get some trim, that'll cure me, he lied as the weights were took from him.
"Don't have to," Book told him.
He leapt up as the weights were lifted by...
"What ya doin?" Jayne asked the fong luh not wanting to know how a little girl lifted them weights with less fuss than two of him.
She just ignored him, carefully setting them down again.
Then she raised a hand to his face; stopping his flinch with the other.
River gently brushed his tears from his cheek; smilin' like it were nothin'.
"Don't have to what?"
He watched as she strolled off as if nothing had happened.
May the Goddess watch over us all,
