One year ago this August, former Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown, who was unarmed, six times. The movement that arose round Brown's death was held together by the idea that "black lives matter". But within a 30-metre radius of Brown's grave there are at least 15 homicide victims. What happened to them goes to the heart of mistrust of police within a community shattered by tragedy, inequity and hopelessness.
